LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Swedish truck maker Volvo said Tuesday that it has offered to buy Japanese truck maker Nissan Diesel for 540 Japanese yen a share, which it said amounts to 7.5 billion Swedish krona ($1.1 billion). Volvo already owns a 19% holding in Nissan Diesel and preference shares which can be converted to an additional 27.5%. "With Volvo as owner, Nissan Diesel gains the resources and the financial stability needed to fully capitalize on the opportunities that a closer cooperation offers to both parties," said Volvo CEO, Leif Johansson.
